Profile
Scott Wilson Kirkpatrick was founded in 1951 by Sir Cyril Kirkpatrick, born in 1872 and deceased in 1957, William Scott and Dr. Guthlac Wilson. Kirkpatrick was Chief Engineer of the Port of London Authority from 1913 to 1924. Shortly thereafter, he decided to set up his own company, in 1924, specializing in docks, ports and sea defences. During World War II Kirkpatrick was responsible for elucidating about the caissons concrete construction, an innovation that would lead to the creation of the Mulberry Harbors, temporary and portable ports that facilitated the landing in Normandy. In turn, in 1945, the engineers William Scott and Dr. Guthlac Wilson founded a partnership. Among their works, they were responsible for the design of the Chiswick and Twickenham bridges over the River Thames in 1933, the Royal Festival Hall in London, among many other. In 1951 the two companies merged to form Scott & Wilson, Kirkpatrick & Partners. In the late 1960s, this company was responsible for the engineering work on the M6 motorway. Scott & Wilson, Kirkpatrick & Partners grew through acquisitions over the following decades. In August 1995, the company acquired two engineering design offices of “British Rail” in Glasgow and Swindon during the privatization of the state company. Other acquisitions took place in the areas of environmental consulting, health and education properties, energy and mining and landscape design. In 1997, the company adopted the name Scott Wilson and on March 15, 2006 entered the London Stock Exchange. The company acquired the civil engineering expert “Benaim Enterprise” in 2008 for £ 5.5 million. On September 10, 2010, US engineering design firm “URS Corporation” completed the acquisition of Scott Wilson Group. At the time of the purchase, the British group had 5500 employees in 80 offices, mainly located in the United Kingdom, Europe, India, Asia Pacific and the Middle East. The group's main regional offices were in London, Hong Kong, Warsaw, New Delhi, Bahrain and Dubai. Its portfolio includes the stabilization of Combe Down Mine in Somerset, Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth, Eden Project in Cornwall, Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow, Erbil International Airport in Erbil, the expansion of Colombo Port in Sri Lanka, Brunei International Airport in Brunei, Lai Chi Kok Bridge and Kai Tak Airport in Hong Kong, and Macau International Airport in China.
